Fire & Ice
oil on canvas mounted on panel, 30 x 40

This fairly large painting took me rather longer to create than most of my pieces, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The inspiration behind it came from seeing a frozen-over streambed in Yellowstone, with "pillow rocks" (as we call snow-mounded boulders) and open leads to the water...and a network of tracks running all over the flawless soft snow surface. It didn't take much imagination to see this gorgeous boy trotting across that streambed - and how could I pass up the chance to juxtapose two strong complements like blue and orange?? This painting was so much fun to do I almost feel guilty. Almost.
