Dreadnought
oil on canvas mounted on panel,
24 x 20

During our pro-pho permit tour in Denali NP in August 2003, we were fortunate enough to find moose feeding in kettle ponds at dawn out in the Wonder Lake end of the park. This particular girl had been feeding away for some time while we watched and filmed her; at last, she swam over to our end of the pond (see the painting "Bathing Beauty") and slowly began to emerge from the water - headed straight for us. A large cow moose coming right at you feels very intimidating, so we grabbed our gear and quickly beat a retreat. This painting is about that moment.
