Art is one of the highest forms of play, which means I'm continually driven to mess about with different media and materials. My scratchboard work, now an important part of my oeuvre, arose from just such experimentation. Over the last few years I've been drawn to trying out watermedia, such as ink and high-flow colors, on interesting surfaces like Yupo (a non-absorbent synthetic paper) and Terraskin (an eco-friendly paper made of ground stone). There's a fascination for me in the somewhat uncontrollable nature of this work, and I like the stylization and visual texture that results. Since I keep coming back to this, it may eventually become a more substantial part of my body of work.
